The basic architectural framework and interior conditions were for most of the countries participating in the world exposition Expo 2005 the same – a simple, square structure. Mimolimit’s task was to design the façade and restaurant of the pavilion.
The design of the façade stems from the motto of the exhibition “Nature’s wisdom and the art of life”. It comprises a wooden structure with a multitude of wooden, angular, tapering sticks. The toned sticks, which look like thorns from a distance, are arranged in a regular grid pattern at various angles to the façade to create the illusion of movement. The illusionary vicissitude and movement of the façade should in an abstract manner symbolize natural energy – be a sort of “vertical meadow”.
